About Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization

The mission of Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization is to ensure, through information, empowerment and peer support, that no one faces breast cancer alone. To fulfill this mission, Y-ME provides information and support to those touched by breast cancer at www.y-me.org and through the 24-hour Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization Hotline, which is staffed entirely by trained peer counselors who are breast cancer survivors. Additionally, 11 affiliates throughout the nation provide services such as support groups, early detection workshops, wigs and prostheses for women with limited resources, and advocacy on breast cancer related policies in their respective communities. Y-ME has an active network of breast cancer patient advocates across the country. Many programs and services, and all literature are available in Spanish. Anyone needing breast cancer information or support can call the 24-hour Y-ME National Breast Cancer Hotline at 1-800-221-2141 (English, with real-time interpreters available in 150 languages) or 1-800-986-9505 (Spanish).

For the Department of Defense Center of Excellence Award project, the patient advocate core will include participation of at least five Y-ME National Breast Cancer representatives. All are graduates of the National Breast Cancer Coalition's Project Lead®, and all but one are themselves breast cancer survivors.
