Communication and Organization

The discovery of a new biology of estrogen action and the need to translate the knowledge to aid patients with endocrine-refractory breast cancer resulted in the planning of this CoE. The synergistic team of investigators at FCCC, TGen, Y-Me National Breast Cancer Organization (Chicago) and GU is led by V. Craig Jordan, PhD, DSc, and Lori Goldstein, MD at FCCC. The CTC, enriched by consumer advocates from the Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization, will recruit and educate participants to the clinical trials (Task 1). Sera and tissue from the clinical trial will be collected for analysis by the Tripartite Task Teams at FCCC (Task 2), GU (Task 3) and TGen (Task 4). Samples from models of breast cancer drug resistance will be prepared at FCCC (Task 2) and provided to GU and TGen to complete Tasks 3 (proteomics) and Task 4 (genomics) respectively. All results will be posted routinely on the secure web. No single Task Team can accomplish the goal of the CoE. However, the combined expertise of the individuals completing their assigned Tasks and sharing the data will create a powerful laboratory/clinical database. The CoE will be organized, administered and managed as follows:
